Since when was rock music not about the money? I read several
accounts of 'The Day The Music Died'. Back then, as today, it was all
about exploiting the artists and the fans. The artists travelled from
show to show in horrible conditions for as little pay as possible, to
be paraded around to kids crazy about the next big fad. The artist
didn't have be creative, they just needed to have a good look, good
energy, and be able to play some Chuck Berry. Excellence blossoms
from those situations as a byproduct, not as part of the process.
