There isw a great deal of differance. Culture and religon do mix that
is true but there is a hell of a differance.

Let me take it back to Sikhi for a sec and I'll explain what I mean.

On another forum, a Sikh forum I am involved in the following topic:

'How many Sikhs have married out of race/caste?'

The very topic (reproduced verbatim) title itself shows how strongly
religion and culture are ingrained.

Sikhs do not belive in caste, it is forbiden for Sikhs to engage in
casteism. Yet even the title shows it is an ongoing concern, even 600
years after the founding of the Sikhi faith.

Here is a quick one-two between two memebers:

'Josh jee,
That is not the question at all on this thread. A person doing any
thing within his race/tribe /cast is a normal affair & has no
controvery attached to this. Question started By Bhai Randip jee was
how many of us have those guts to do something not normal in the
system but also a thing which Sikhi does support. Thus, it becomes a
sort of Iron Test for us Sikhs. How many of us Sikhs can go against
the established system. I hope it should clarify the text in question.
Guru Fateh.
Hardip Singh'

'Nicely explained. You have it right.
"how many of us Sikhs can go against the established system". Needs to
be elaborated. That line might leave some people confused. Marrying
Out of established system does not mean out of dharam/sikhi etc.'

The mention here of established system, and dharma are important. The
established system being that Indians do not marry out of caste, the
dharma being that Sikhi says ohh yes thay can as there is no such
thing as caste.

So here is a good example of culture getting in the way and being
favourble to religion.

No sir, although they can be said to be tied together a certian
amount, they are two differant beasts.
