The "mommy myth" would not be what your children want to read about, although I am sure they would enjoy the fictional work, which would obviously be saturated with your reality. If your story is tragic, or would diminish their opinion of a loved one, they will learn much more from it than a nice work of fiction that they could only read for pleasure, rather than to learn about their immediate ancestors. I suggest you write the document verbatim, and then maybe soften it up in an edited version if you truly feel that the truth would hurt your children. In other words, write the book for yourself and then edit it for your children if you MUST.
I am honing up my saw and chisel as we speak.
