I tend to look at these matters from the 'other end'. Most people have no clue about what evidence is and the role of their own incompetence in thinking dumb. Most of us are not good at maths, science and critical thinking and we need to know this. The aim of such knowing is complex and is not about being dumb but being able to live in an informed world.
