First of all, we are given names not of our choosing by parents who may have sentimental or ulterior motives- they also "give" us a religion/God. Secondly, a woman takes a man's last name in marriage- or used to- and why should I give intellectual credit to those hapless deadbeats? I have another name I use in shortened form that I will/ would use should I wish to publish someday. The use of a pseudonym was good enough for Amadine Aurore Lucie Dupin, Baroness Dudevant= George Sand.
