This would place it as one of Aquinas' latest works (as he died in 1274), although such datings are the subject of much discussion. IF it was actually written - or completed - in 1273, then this was shortly before his reported mystical experience of God in December of that year after which he declared that everything he had written seemed like straw to him [mihi videtur ut palea].
