I was around the age of 15-16 and the influences of the time were
mystic, transcendentalist, shamanic and alchemical. The symbol was a
symmetric cross with a hook on the top and bottom legs
attached/extending clockwise.
The why may be too personal to share here, but I remember being very
inspired by many diverse spiritual resources. It is mostly inaccessible
to me now, the memory is of profound meanings in every detail.

Ouch Pat, sorry to hear, reflecting on my 'naturale' reference I hope it

None whatsoever. I expect it was down to God wanting me to be marked
in the old Abrahamic way.
That reminds me of an earlier life. I preferred homemade rudimentary
tools, amazingly they fade with time even when set with blade and hot
iron. Not sure of the meaning (if any) but a symbol set on the
center-back of my hand was erased by a dog sinking a large tooth
straight through the area, and causing some bone damage in the process.
Better the hand than my neck, which he really wanted. Fixed it all up by
myself :).
What was the original symbol? And why?
*ponders karma on that one...
As the old (slightly paraphrased) joke goes...may your karma run over
that dogma.

So I'm quite a fan of this, as a mutli pireced and tattoed man, I'm
now feeling the tattoo itch again (forgive me father it has been two
years since my last tat), I have the design all ready I know where I
want it, and by the end of the month the cash will be in my pocket and
away I'll go.
I was also thinking of a Prince Albert (if I can manage to persude the
wife) and and perhaps a branding or scar of some discription (all
future plans you undestand).
What about you lot, fans, find it disgusting, got anything tated, or
poked a hole through anything lately?
The only change I've experieced was circumcision shortly after my
birth; so, I had no choice about that. Otherwise, I'm 'as is', grey
hairs and all. I never had the urge to have a tattoo; I wouldn't know
what I wanted or where and, I figure that, as soon as it was done, I'd
want it undone. So I leave well enough alone. As far as others go,
it's a personal choice and, as long as the owner can live with it, on
what basis could I complain?- Hide quoted text -
