I will agree that spanish is spreading but very slowly and it is kept within communities .. but I know many people who have no interest at all in Gambling.. and never travel out side their towns to any extent. though many school districts now are required to teach language and some do better than others.. when I was young we had a experimental course it lasted 12 weeks and the class was held once a week for a half hour needless to say I did not learn much french.. my wife on the other hand who is dutch was required to take Dutch, German, french, spanish and english. I have to admit that the use of a language other than your mother tongue is of much greater value over here in europe than in america. fortunately the universal scientific language of the world is predominately english, but it is losing its status.
