Agree wholeheartedly. I especially like the idea of a board of specialists running things (although I would have added some economists and psychologists to the mix).
It is my personal belief that the primary motivator for political office is power - regardless of whether that power be wielded for altruistic or selfish ends. Further, I believe that there should be some mechanism in place to preserve the democratic process and isolate any legislative and executive decision making from the influence of special interest groups and corporations that don't represent the majority of the population (I realize the oxymoron. but we really shouldn't be run by the people with the most money who's motivations are suspect). Without that I believe democracy as we know it is doomed to failure.
