Avoid means do not take that path.. it translates better and more accurately.. you complained like crazy when it said do not..avoid is actually a better than do not because it avoids who are you to tell me what to do syndrome.. Seven words can do more than entire sermons for the simple reason they are easy to recall. Once planted in a persons head the become a simple rock solid foundation on which to build morality whether fundamentalist or modern. If you want society to change away from a course of self destruction you begin by quietly planting a different morality.. to combat those who promote rape, murder or enslavement of others.. Oddly those same 7 words apply to all cultures .. not just one..
