You're not the only one. But now you have the Alpa400 kernel running, can't you 
just use IMG files for recovery? The 3MX releases are all in IMG format, try 
them...

 Still stuck...

 The L400 minifs recognizes that I have a recovery image on my USB-stick
 and asks me to start the installation.

 But it fails lo install (open: no such file or directory)

 I start to hate all these subtle differences between the Mipsbook models...
