Hi Jacob,
I have tried cranking *everything* to the max using mixerctl, and it
does not seem to make any difference. All settings right now are pushed
to the maximum.
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Okay...
This is direclty from my dmesg output:

eso0: mapping Audio 1 DMA using VC I/O space at 0xfc70

And this is from 'mixerctl -av' :
-------------------<snip>-----------------
inputs.dac=112,112 volume
inputs.mic=0,0 volume
inputs.line=0,0 volume
inputs.fmsynth=112,112 volume
inputs.mono_in=0 volume
inputs.cd=0,0 volume
inputs.auxb=0,0 volume
try cranking up the inputs. not with kmix, but with mixerctl.
