Hi. I am upgrading my test (& backup) laptop from 7.7 to 7.8, and
running sysupgrade rebooted it, but after I entered the FDE key, it
checks hardware or something for a bit then I think I see "panic"
flash on the screen, and it reboots, even from single-user
mode. Unfortunately that doesn't let me provide a dmesg. It is an
old dell inspiron.

So I tried running upgrade from a CD with cd78.iso on it. After the
prompt to choose a keyboard, it asks which disk is the root disk.
Typing "?" for details says "wd0: ....", which I believe is correct, but
entering wd0 at the prompt gives "wd0 is not a valid root disk", or for
other variations besides wd0, it says "no such disk").

I can see the dmesg if I boot from the CD, but there is no
network connection so I'm not sure how to provide it. I was unable to
ftp it to another host since there is no network.

Update: if I enter the FDE key, then press ^C when it says "Welcome to
the OpenBSD/amd64 7.8 installation program." then I can get a shell. If
I let it proceed (exiting from that shell, or booting without ^C), then
the panic or reboot seems to happen immediately after "Checking root
filesystem..." which is followed by "Mounting root filesystem", then the
screen flashes and it reboots & re-prompts for the FDE key.

Suggestions? If I need to use a shell and move files, I'd benefit from
the syntax for the mount command/s in this case.

Thanks very much.
