(It was not clear to me from man bioctl that the same command as to create would be used to attach the volume, but the FAQ 14 says at the end, "The same bioctl(8) command used to create the volume can be used to attach it later on.") After running that command I get: "bioctl: could not open sd0: No such file or directory." When I boot with boot> boot /bsd I am able to use the disk normally with obsd 7.7. Also, bioctl -hi [sd0|/dev/sd0|wd0] yield "bioctl: Can't locate [sd0|etc] device via /dev/bio".
