hi everyone
i'm using rsync incremental backup and
i'm trying to understand which backups are full and which are

my backup policy is 7 daily 4 weekly 12 monthly 1 yearly backup
for the daily backups
monday is a full backup
and tuesday to sunday are incremental.
is that the same for my weekly and monthly backups
where the first week is a full backup
and the following weeks are incremental backup of the previous week ?

As others have said, your question is way to ambiguous.

I suspect I know what you are thinking, if I'm right, you are thinking
wrong. But I have nothing to go on from your post.

Done properly, rsync based backups can be a glorious combination of the
best of both worlds -- moving data as if it was always incremental, but
storing it as if it was always a full backup.

this is how I do it, scaling from one little netbook backing up my home
directory to an SD card to 500 machines and ~25TB of disk, the docs here
might help you understand how it all works, even if you aren't going to
use my script:

I've installed this at a number of my employers over the years, and it
has been a HUGE hit with the administrators because it is so bloomin'
USEFUL, which is not something people usually say when talking about
backups.
