There will be some more work going into it but regarding layouting the current idea was to leave this completely to the application and instead get things like viewport and contrast synchronization working. BUT getting our current rendering thread-safe is not trivial. I see one of the biggest challenges that there are pointers to data being distributed throughout the application without any kind of controlling instance yet. I'm planning to discuss this topic in December and I hope we come up with a possible solution.
