I think since the point of Mixxx is for digital DJing for everyone, having a
DJ as part of the logo would make it easier to identify with.
I was tinkering with the idea of trying to get a Mixxx wave form from one of
the wave viewers in mixxx and trying to superimpose the letters... I
couldn't come up with anything that looked clean enough to be a logo
candidate.
One unfamiliar with Mixxx might mistake the helix in those logos for some
kind of genetics thing. Being a former bio guy, recombinant DNA was the
first thing that popped into my mind when I saw it (though I must admit it
made me like it a bit more. :P)
I think if there were a DJ scratching in the logo, my mom would know that it
had to do with DJing...
