Just to throw my oar in on the "PFL" question... a few DJ mixers use "PFL", but it's mainly something you'd only find on a studio mixer. DJ mixers tend to use "CUE" more commonly. I guess there's then a risk of confusion between that kind of cue and the cue button / cue points though...
I think a headphone icon trumps both of these. In general, icons are better than text because they don't have to be read. My car's builtin stereo just has rows of identical buttons with identical-looking writing (in CAPS) on each - no icons, even for things like PLAY and FF. It's just about the worst interface they could possibly have come up with, for something you should be able to just shoot a quick glance at to know which button to push...
