Convert from one lossy format to an other is not a good idea.
I Think you have to compile it yourselves for m4a and mp4 support.

When I understand this correct, its up to the user to decide if its allowed
to install the libfaad in his country.

So why not link soundsourcem4a always to Mixxx and try to load libfaad at
runtime?
Or it is possible to provide soundsourcem4a as separate binary?
How is this issue solved in gstreamer?

I think for most users it is hard to understand why Banshee or rhythmbox
are able to play nearly all audio formats but Mixxx not.
