As for the skins, you might want to try the color scheme support
(http://mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/skin_colour_scheme_architecture) in Mixxx,
which allows to create a different colored version of a skin.
This is currently used in the Outline skins ( Preferences > Interface > Scheme
), but can applied to other available skins as well by adding <Schemes> syntax
to the respective skin.xml.
For v1.12 (https://blueprints.launchpad.net/mixxx/+spec/1.12-skins), it is
planned to completely rework the skins. Adding bright (daytime) variants isn't
on the list yet, but you might want to fill a bug report and add some
specs/ideas.
