All,
I've been researching these things for a while now. I managed to test
drive one two weeks ago (Cosmic Green with black cloth interior, monsoon
sound system, winter package) and I was rather impressed. In stock trim,
the power is very nice. My only complaint was the almost complete lack of
clutch effort. I nearly sent the pedal through the floor the first time I
put it in... Other than that, it was a great car. I didn't get the chance
to push it too much due to the location of the dealership (right by a mall,
nowhere to wind it out). One other annoyance is the traction control
system. With that on, 1st gear goes something like this: vroooom, screech,
BAM! BAM! BAM! $hit did I just hit the rev limiter??? It feels really weird
when that thing kicks in, but at least there's the option to turn it off.
When disabled, the car had no problem lighting the stock Goodyear Eagles up
from a rolling start. (OK, I lied, that's two bad things about the car.
Make sure you have enough money to slap on a set of SP8000's ASAP). From
what I hear, nobody is really willing to budge off of sticker due to the
high demand. A local dealer has a deal worked for Progressive, so they
quoted me $19,943 for a GTi 1.8T with leather. I really don't want the
Monsoon sound system, but it looks like they're sticking that in every car
coming off the line so I might not have a choice there. I'm in the process
of working out the financing and making sure I can afford one and if/when
that works out there's going to be a Tropic Orange GTi 1.8T with Black
Leather cruising the streets of Cleveland...

'90 GLI (Most likely for sale soon, 1st offer over $3500 takes it!)

Subject: VW News...The GTI 1.8T is here!!
Guys, I got good news from my friend in VW sales yesterday. We got our
first
GTI 1.8T on Thursday. And check this out: with leather, power windows,
sunroof, top of the line sound system, 16" wheels and alot of other
goodies,
it comes in at only $20,700. Anybody interested in a '91 Jetta? Actually,
I'll be waiting for the Jetta 1.8T. The price is right, that's for sure...

PS - Did anyone see the new EC? There's a HUGE article on A2 engine swaps
in
