It's just old and tired I would assume. I have a small oil leak coming from it and the engine has approx 125K mi on it. (dunno exactly since the odometer doesn't work much anymore) The oil leak isn't bad, just messy. I can usually go from regular oil changes without having to add oil. Depends on how often I rev it up past 5-6K RPM. ;) Just another one of those things that can go wrong. Thanks for the info. I think I'll pay someone else to do it right the first time. Nothing worse than trying to fix something and just making it worse. Especially a head gasket!

I would be inclined to change it when you know it's bad(like now) but before it gets any worse and could possibly cause more problems, or leave you stranded somewhere.
