little shock absorber on engine

Does it actually do anything? My 2.0 didn't have it when I bought it. Should
I install it? The engine shakes a lot when it idles and it shifts pretty
hard but I'm pretty sure I don't have the hydraulic (front) mount. Also can
the rubber engine mount go bad?
