There is something wrong with this car. I have been having a problem with my
91 2.0. Every once in a while when I let off the gas and pull it out of
gear it just dies. It happens fairly randomly, but it seems to happen more
when the engine has not been running for very long. Another symptom that is
related is that the motor backfires when I get below 2k and coast down the
revs. When it starts misfiring like that I know right away when I put the
clutch in it will be dead. The strange thing is that it does not do it all
the time, for instance every other stoplight it will fall in revs normally
and idle, but sometimes it just falls to dead, if you know what I mean. It's
becoming quite dangerous when I put the clutch in before a corner and the
power steering is suddenly gone.
A couple of other problems that I am convinced are associated:
-Sometimes when I let off the gas the idle goes up briefly then falls
slowly, sometimes not. This is especially annoying in freeway driving as it
doesn't respond right to pedal movement.
-The car always hard starts, takes 4-8 cranks.
-BOSCH fault codes report faulty Knock Sensor II, and Airflow Sensor. Knock
Sensor II has always been reported, but Airflow Sensor is a new error. Both
I checked thouroughly using Benltey and they passed all electrical tests.
Not sure which one is knock sensor II tho. I was under the impression that
knock sensors do not go bad very often.
-Unplugging the O2 sensor and it still does it, runs the same really
-Removed and inspected my injectors, are they supposed to sound like train
whistles? The spray looks ok i guess.
-Removed and inspected cold start valve operation. Works according to
Bentley.
-Removed Garett chip, same problem with stock chip.
I'm beginning to miss the Digifant in my 88 jetty, always worked, never a
problem, 212K miles. Any input would be nice, thanks guys. :)
