So, I am driving my 91 GLI to work today. Suddenly I bam... WTF is that sound. It sounds like a huge rock hit my hood. But when I look foward it appears something has shot through from the INSIDE of the hood? So, I pull over to see what happened (the car still runs fine).... Apparantly part of the fan on the alternator came free and blew a 4" hole through my hood. I'll never buy an autozone reman again.... The pulley is still on the alternator, but part of the alternator fan is on the street somewhere. I can't believe how much power it had because it flew another 20 feet after it blew though my hood. Weird shit... Now I have to buy a new hood & have it painted : ( Anyone in New England have a metallic black hood around....
