I am transplanting a 2.0l 16V Motronic Engine into a 1985 A2 Golf Chassis.
The donor car is a 1992 B3 Passat.
Question. I prefer to use the later generation Passat motor mounts because I
frequently broke the original 1985 motor mounts with the original 90hp 8V
low compression engine. Everything bolts up easily into the new engine bay
using the new Passat style motor mounts.

However, the Passat motor mounts are 3/4" longer in back and 3/4" shorter on
the front mount. But the transmission mount is identical to the original.
What this does is effectively position the motor 3/4" closer to the fan
assembly.

I am also transplanting the dual fan setup from the Passat and it seems
there are no clearance problems presented by the new forward position.

1) Will this new position severely affect drive shaft alignment?

2) Will it pose a problem with the A2 exhaust? There is difinitely more
clearance between the exhaust manifold and the firewall.

3) Will it pose a problem with the shifter linkage?

4) Will it increase or decrease torque steer in this chassis?

5) Do I need to worry about this or do later generation A2s have a more
forward motor position?

(Or should I just shut up and keep installing?)

Thanks in Advance

Les
