        Welcome to the club!!!  I know at least 4 other people that have B3 
Passats
as their winter cars, so they can keep their modded 16Vs in good shape.  I'm
in the same situation as yourself, I have a GLi and a '91 GL for a daily
driver, not just winter.

        I fell in love w/the B3 very quickly.  I like it's styling, it's got 
much
more room than an A2 (fits 5 comfortable), and has some nice amenities.
I've actually gone a bit nuts and done some modifications to the Passat.
Basically what I have now is a GLX w/o the VR6.  It's the car I drive 90% of
the time, so I wanted to be comfortable.

        The CL is the model below the GL, so your power options will be limited.
Depending on your tastes, that can be good or bad.  Most of the items Les
mentioned are right on.  I've never had any electrical problems w/mine,
knock on wood.  The main electrical issue I've heard of are the automatic
seatbelts.

        Something else to check into...the heater core is the same as in the A2.
However, there IS NOT a standing recall on the core for the B3s.  For the
16V cars, it's VIN specific.  Mine blew, I bitched like hell to VWoA, they
replaced it.  You may or may not have a similar experience, so check into if
it's been replaced.

        As for price, 1800 might be a tad high.  I think if u can get it for 
1500,
you will be right in the ball park.  If you can get it for less, you are
getting a deal.

        For the most part, I'm really happy w/mine.  I've had some issues along 
the
way, but they have been typical 16V issues, nothing specific to a Passat.
Because it's heavier than the A2s, it's a better handler in the snow.

OK, I just changed my email address.  So just incase someone gets my email
from my old address and tries to reply....here is a copy of my last post.


I am currently in seach of a daily driver/winter car (don't want to drive
the GLi in the snow).  Came across a 92 Passat in pretty good condition
except for a broken front turn signal lens.  It's a CL 5 speed with 123k on
it.  Guy is asking 1800 for it but it is on consignment at a deal and has
sat for two months so I should be able to deal.  Anyone have any pointers on
things to check, common problems with these cars or any other info.  Plus do
you think the price is good?  Tryin to talk them down to 1500.  Any input
would be great.
