This brings up an interesting subject. Does the power steering need to be cooled? What are the effects of overheating? Would a manual rack setup be ideal for the track?
I am currently converting an A2 Golf into a 16V and I had planned on taking the power steering rack from the donor car as well. I intend to do some driving after hours at the track. Would it be better to leave the manual rack in or convert to the power steering? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Chad Rebuck Sent: Thursday, September 26, 2002 9:12 AM To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [a2-16v-list] Track - temps and more My temps were up to 280 as well at Sebring, FL this past weekend. I also found power steering fluid had misted the battery and some other nearby hoses and wires. I have a new tank to put in yet as I've always suspected it had a leak. There has to be a lot of fluid flowing through the tank at high rpms especially. I'll probably install an oil cooler before I go to the track again, but I don't think those temps are really harmful. My Corrado used to get that hot with only a little hard driving. What is considered too high an oil temp? I am running standard 20w50 valvoline (not their racing type oil).
