You might as well put in the windage tray.  They're
cheap and integrate the oil pan gasket that you'd have
to buy anyways.

What kind of oil temps do you see?  My GLI rarely gets
over 214 degrees.  Even on the track this summer I
didn't get over 234.  I have an oil cooler sitting in
my basement, but with those temps I don't see the need
to install it...
