The simple explanation is US spec 16Vs have CIS (Continuous Injection System) which is a completely mechanical fuel injection system. The amount of fuel metered to the engine is controlled mechanically by the air flow sensor and fuel pressure. The main components of the system are the air flow sensor, the fuel distributor, and the fuel injectors. There is CIS-E which adds a differential pressure regulator and an ECU. And finally there is CIS-E Motronic which combines all of the engine management systems into a single control box.
On the other hand Digifant is a digitally controlled fuel injection system with electronically pulsed fuel injectors on a pressurized fuel rail. It has an Idle Stabilizer Valve and usually incorporates a Mass Air Flow Sensor or a CO Potentiometer. Here in the US, it is commonly found on late model 2.0l-8v and Corrado G60s. I believe only the Europeans recieved the Digifant system on their 2.0l-16Vs. I think this system is gaining in popularity because it is reliable and seems to be well suited to supercharging or turbocharging. Non-Digfant? I hear all this stuff about Digifant and non-digifant. whats the difference? i mean other than the years. Different type of injection? I know my GLi has a digifant injection system, but i dont know what THAT is. thanks for clearing it up. -Adam _______________________________________________ a2-16v-list mailing list [email protected] http://mail.a2-16v.com/mailman/listinfo/a2-16v-list For list archives, see listinfo link above.
