Here is my experience w/the exhaust portion of your question. Installed SS TT cat back exhaust (w/venturi and 2nd resonator) and Dynomax on 92 GTI 8V . No problems, good product quality, the Dynomax is a convetional looking muffler w/chambered design, so the exhaust must pass around flow directors to exit the muffler. Overall sound is good, not too loud, still free flowing exhaust. Installed a SS TT cat back exhaust (w/venturi and 2nd resonator) and Borla on 91 GTI 16V. Again, no problems, good quality, the Borla muffler is a straight through design, you can see directly through the muffler from the inlet to the outlet. Looking in you'll see a tube perforated w/small holes, the tube is surrounded by SS wool to dampen the sound, minimum restriction here. Overall sound is louder than the Dynomax, almost too loud for me, seems to work well on the car though. I have to deal w/rust issues here, so SS made sense for my application. Also, I tend to keep my cars for quite a while.

Subject: [a2-16v-list] 8v tt-camshaft and exhaust, any BTDT

Anyone have any experience with the 8v GTI cams/exhaust?

From reading an "exhaust shootout" on an 8v Jetta in Grassroots Motorsports
a few months ago (they tested ~10 different setups), I was thinking of going
with the tt-exhaust due to good hp AND torque increases as well as low
weight and low cost, and figured I would get a tt-cam while I was at it.

I was wondering what you guys thought of the exhausts for this car and if
the Borla muffler could be worth the extra $100+ over the Dynomax superturbo
on the tt-exhaust. I'm sure it's a better muffler, but could it really make
much more hp, or just look better and last longer (being stainless steel).

I was thinking about the tt-266 and tt-268 cams but not sure which would be
better or if I should consider another company. tt states that the 268 is a
factory VW sport camshaft while the 266 is there own recipe.

I have sourced a dual outlet EM and downpipe from an 8v Jetta so that should
help as well.

Thanks for the input,
Steve Hauptmann
South Carolina (rust not a significant issue here)
