Well, the car doesn't have a converter, so that goes right out the window.  To 
be honest, it really felt like vapor lock.  I am almost certain that the 
problem is fuel-related.  The main pump sounded awfully loud after I replaced 
the transfer pump, too.  I just hope I didn't kill that thing when the transfer 
pump was going. :(
