Well According to Alldata my car did have the recall.

http://www.alldata.com/TSB/62/91622819.html

I will be calling the dealer in the am to see what they say.

You know for years I have been thinking that I should check on this recall.
Now its too late. All you out there who still have
dry boots, check for your recall and get it done.

thanks guys,

Larry

Yes, A friends 91 GTi blew a heatercore last week and the dealer fixed it free
of charge. But not without the expected denial and
complaining. It is a Safety recall issued by the department of transportation.
They have to honor it. Check www.alldata.com to see
if your car is within the years covered.
Talk to the dealer with the specific recall notice and numbers. Then call VWoA
to verify.

Even these many years later, they will replace it?!

Larry,
Check with VW to see if the heater core was covered by the recall.
If its not, then get ready to take out the dash. It won't be a fun job.

Mark.
