Remove the flange from the head and inspect the flange closely. Some of the
hoses develop corrosion around the fitting area between the hose and the
aluminum fitting area. Clean until both the fitting is clean and the hose is
clean, reassamble and see if that has fixed the leak. If the fitting has
corroded too much it may need replacement, but cleaning is a good start to
solving the leak.

Subject: [a2-16v-list] slow coolant leak on 2.0L 16V
Date: Sun, 29 Feb 2004 13:09:10 -0700
Wow, it's been so long since I've received a message from this list that I
thought it was dead. It also don't help that yahoo keeps putting the
messages in the spam folder. anyway, I've got a very slow leak from the
aluminum coolant flange at the front of the engine, mounted to the lower
portion of the intake manifold. The coolant appears where a hose (which
goes down to the water pump) is clamped around it. i've already tightened
that clamp numerous times. i suppose the clamp could be loosening up.
It's very heard to get a mirror in there to see anything. Also, I've run
my finger around the area to see if i feel wetness anywhere else other than
where the hose is. I thought I'd ask for ideas before i just take it all
apart and replace everything.
thanks,
JohnE
