sounds to me like either one of the fuel pumps is failing, or the dampness
has caused a short in the fuel system somewhere. Have you been able to play
with the car in dryer conditions yet?

Subject: [a2-16v-list] OT Daily driver

Hi,
My daily driver, a 92 Jetta Carat, 8V 1.8 L crapped out today. I had driven
about 35 highway miles in snow sleet and hail. I had gone about 1 mile off
the highway. At a stop light the car stalled. I could start it but it would
just barely chug along. I was able to start it after about 1/2 hr. The car
then went 1/2 mile and died again. I filled the gas tank. The car did start
but would just fade right down. After a while I got it to keep running at
3000 RPM. It would then idle. I drove another 30 highway miles got off at
home and the same again.
My first 2 thoughts were that it was wet, or the transfer pump is going. Any
thoughts?
Thanks,
John
