I know what you mean Brian.
The only thing keeping me in my 91 Jetta GTX is the fact that my insurance
will go up to $4000/year from the $2500 I pay now.
My Jetta is slowly deteriorating and it becomes more evident after each
winter here in Toronto.
Its sad but I think that we're all moving on to newer, less problematic
cars.
I don't want to venture far from the VAG brand.
I'm having a hard time justifing buying a MK3 Jetta VR6 because of the fuel
comsumption. As it stands now my 16V is burning as much gas as a VR6 would.
I think this winter will be my last with the Jetta GTX. I'll clean her up a
little and sell her come spring. It will be the end of an era but I think
its time to move on to something without a loud booming exhaust and race
suspention.

I recently gave in as well.
I needed a dependable car that was good on gas for my job. So I bought
a 02 Civic. I had problem after problem after problem with it. So,
finally, I worked out a deal with the used lot where I bought it to
trade it in for another car. And wouldn't you know, there was a black
02 Jetta GLS 1.8T sitting there. Loaded.....with heated seats and
everything. After a day of thinking it over I couldn't help myself. I
picked it up last Friday. And my payment only went up 12 bucks a month
(they had it on their lot for too long and were about to take it to
auction, so they cut me a deal for $14,000).
I still have my GLI which I had planned on keeping and doing some work
on in the spring.....but plans might have changed. I might be moving
and won't have room to keep two cars. So, I am again looking to sell my
90 2.0 GLI (65k miles if anyone is interested). I could never bring
myself to sell it but now it looks like I might have to.

I swear I'll never buy another vw again too. But I can't see parting
with
my 16v quite yet. I bought the car almost 3 years ago and have really
run
it very hard at the track many, many times, on the street sometimes,
etc.
Highways going 110+ and it has yet to give me any problems. What really
made up my mind about not buying another vw is my 92 corrado slc that
consitantly broke down.

Well, after having my GLI for 5.5 years, I've given in to the new car
bug. Even though I've sworn to myself many times that I would never
get
another VW (mostly while wrenching on the old one), I did it anyway.
Tonight I picked up an 05 Golf GLS TDI. I was tempted by the new GLI,
but somehow the practical side of me won out. Although I think the
TDI
is going to be a fun car.
I'm both happy and sad. Not sure what I'm going to do with the Jetta.
It's such a fun car, but it needs more time and TLC than I can give it
anymore.
Laters,
Brian
