You guys are in the backyard of my old neighborhood.
My high school buddies worked at Winchester Auto for years. I'm living in Southern California now but I've never found a better auto parts store. I still ride my bicycle up Mt Hamilton(Weather permitting) when I'm back up
there visiting my family.

Well hell dude, I live right at the bottom of Mt. Hamilton. Ya'll should stop by when you're around, sometime. Be careful goin' up Hamilton on a bicycle, I might miss an apex and we'd meet the hard way, ha! I'm the opposite, I grew up in SoCal and live in NorCal, now. Whereabouts in SoCal are 'ya? I still own the house I grew up in, in Woodland Hills.

I just refurbished a set of 4x100 Corrado hubs and carriers so that I can outfit 11" brakes on the front of my Golf. Now you are making me consider
the addition of multi-piston calipers.

Go for it, you won't be sorry. If you already have the 10.1"-11.0" hub carriers, all you need is the adapter brackets, which depending on the brackets, will allow you to go to bigger 2 piece rotors. With the 12.19" rotors I have, 16" wheels fit (at least BBS RC's) without any problem.

Holland... as usual, we all bow to your greatness.

I bought my Wilwoods used ages ago. They came with adapter plates
which were supposedly to fit my VW but my memory fades much faster than
my brakes these days so I don't really know what I got anymore.

I do remember that many of the pistons seemed unusually difficult to
push back in.

I live up in San Francisco now but I'm down in San Jose every now and
then. I tell my girlfriend it's because of her but I really just like
to visit Winchester Auto.

Let me know your contact info and I'll give you a heads up next time
I'm around... & feel free to stop by if you're in SF.

Any of you listers out there break down in my hood, my garage is your
garage... my mobile is 415-999-8423

Mark,
I recently put Wilwoods on the front of my GTI. I used 4 piston
Forged Billet Superlight calipers, P/N 120-8464-R & -L,
with adapter brackets I got from Precision Brake in Ashland, OR.
They're on 12.19" ULP drilled & slotted 2 piece rotors,
and I'm currently running Polymatrix BP-10 pads. These brakes will
suck the eyeballs out of your head, the pedal feel is
awesome, plus they're so consistent and repeatable, it's amazing.
The BP-10 pads are an excellent street/track pad.
They have good cold bite, and so far, are fade free (I haven't
totally punished them yet, but a few reasonably quick trips
down Mount Hamilton were rock solid).
On your rebuild, the pistons should move the whole length of the
bores smoothly with a little resistance. If it requires
a lot of force to move the pistons, something is wrong. Are you sure

you got the correct seals from Wilwood? Most of
their calipers are available with various sized pistons, so it's
possible you ended up with the wrong ones. You still living
off Winchester? You could bring them by here, or I could drop by
your place and take a look, if you want.

Josh, about your Wilwoods:

I have some old ones I wanted to put on the front of my 16v (which
has
11" VW single piston calipers)... I forget the exact model of
Wilwood
but they're 'less deluxe' 4-piston models.

So here's my question for you: I pulled out the pistons, honed the
cylinders, and put in new seals. But I thought the pistons fit in
way
too tight. Do you know how to tell if the rebuild job was good or

not?
I'm not sure I want to road test them yet ;-)

How do they work for you? What size rotors are you using? What
Wilwood pads are you using?

Thanks,

Mark

Yea... if your pedal goes to the floor suddenly then acts fine
later
it is the MC failing... easy fix.

If you are looking to save weight on the rear calipers, I am
working
on a Wilwood conversaion for the rears to match my front
Wilwoods...
should save a *bunch* of weight... no ebrake though...
