This is just a hunch because I'm not sure it applies to the A2 Golf/jetta. However, I thought I would offer the theory since the Golfs and Corrados share many of the same design/engineering concepts. On a Corrado (Which is also an A2) there are two drains under the windshield wipers. These easily get clogged with leaves and debris. If this does not drain properly, the water pools under the windshield and eventually rises to eventually overflow into the AC intake vent. The water then flows down the airbox and into the passenger side foot well.
I have firsthand experience after discovering this "feature" one day. I'd forgotten to put the car in the garage and left it in the driveway. There was a short cloud burst that afternoon and soon afterwards, I went to my car to find it full of water! So much water that I wet vac'd 18 gallons of it out of the passenger side of my car. Now every season, I diligently check to ensure those drains are clear. -Les -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Chad Rebuck Sent: Thursday, September 21, 2006 9:11 PM To: a2-16v Subject: [a2-16v-list] my car was full of water i'm glad I can share with you all that my car was full of water in the back driver side floorpan. At least a few gallons. It was high enough to come up even with the bump in the middle of the floor between the seats. i got in the car to start it up for the first time in about a month and decided to feel if the carpet was damp and water was up to my wrist. Made me jump like a scared little girl. Maybe I'll start be replacing all the plastic in the doors and see if the water leak stops? Anything else I should have a look at? I am no good at troubleshooting water leaks on my vws. I should be because they all have leaked - maybe its by design. How about I drill some small holes in the floor where the water puddles up...
