So, after 4 months, I finally got my MR2 running again - I tried like mad to
avoid buying a new ECU but that was the ultimate solution...that and another
alternator (the 2nd in 6 months). As a result, the GTi seems to have suffered
extreme jealousy and decided to fight back.
I went up to get the GTi and was following my buddy home (who opted to drive
the
MR2 - something about a JDM 20v swap that interested him). Sitting in traffic,
the car was grumbling per usual. Then I hear "bang, clank, thud" and the
alternator light comes on - Rut Roh. Pulled off shortly thereafter and found
the crank and p/s pulleys are GONE. I know where they are but am just not
going
back there to find them b/c it's a 2-lane road that's so heavily travelled that
the parts were junk about 10 seconds after them exited the car.
That having been said, I can't find any of my spare pulleys - don't ask, I'm a
pack rat who can't find his treasure trove.
Anyone have a spare crank and p/s pulley they'd like to sell off? Better would
be a nice lightened version that I could swap onto the race car (hint, hint).
I think we broached this before but maybe not on this list - anyone interested
in underdrive pulleys? I know the hot lick is to convert to a serpentine belt
from the ABA but that requires changing the alternator and, I think, the a/c
compressor. I'd rather just get an underdrive crank pulley that I can use on
both the race and street cars. Unorthodox used to make them and when I
contacted them last year, they're no longer producing them BUT they'd be
willing
to make more if we had enough interested parties.
I'm not sure how much effort it is to make them but if we can "DIY", I'd rather
do that so we can have our own "custom pulleys, yo" - you know, for the
Bling-Factor.
