Amsoil, Red Line, Royal Purple still make 20W50. I've never personally used Royal Purple but one of my friends rec'd a case b/c their rep's comment was "You'll see 500 more RPM with Royal Purple and provided a case of oil to prove it". He tested it and sure enough - 8500 instead of 8000 on the back straight!! We liked the fact that Royal Purple walked the walk, talked the talk and had the stones to say "Here - try this - don't take my word for it b/c I'm supposed to tell you my stuff's better".
That having been said, I run Red Line b/c, well, I'm a cheap SOB and work for a Red Line distributor... >________________________________ >From: Chad Rebuck <[email protected]> >To: Matthew Yip <[email protected]>; Volkswagen a2 16v discussion list ><[email protected]> >Sent: Monday, September 26, 2011 10:09 AM >Subject: Re: [a2-16v-list] ABA metal gasket and temps > >I haven't yet used synthetic in my engine but I would see 250+ at >track events where I was on the throttle for 30 minutes at a time. >This was with the turbo and an oil cooler. > >I do plan to run synthetic after break in though.
