Aside from the normal metric socket set, screwdrivers, and assorted bits I found some specific items that I keep in a VW only tools bin.
1 - Snap-on brake line wrench. 11mm(?) I found that the ones from the local auto parts store simply strips any threads on those hardline couplings 2. - Motiv Power Bleeder for bleeding the brakes 3. - Aluminum 2000lb floor jack from Harbor Freight. I can't afford the $300 Griots Garage version but the Harbor freight $69 jack is almost an identical copy. 4. Schley Tools VW Bearing press for front wheel bearings. 5. Snap-On - Electrical connector tool 6. Multi-point driver set for Head bolts/driveshaft bolts etc 7. 32mm socket for the front drive carrier hub bolt. Along with a large breaker bar and a 6' length of steel pipe for leverage. 8. Nice set of metric Allen wrenches 9. The Bentley Manual 10. If your VW has the "C" exhaust clips, you will need the Schley "C" clip tool to replace the down pipe. 11. VW Timing belt pulley tensioner tool. Most of my cars are pre "OBD" so I've found no need for the VAG tool. -Les On 12/4/11 7:15 PM, "[email protected]" <[email protected]> wrote: >The cordless electric is awesome at the track. > >Sent from my HTC on the Now Network from Sprint! > >----- Reply message ----- >From: "Matthew Yip" <[email protected]> >Date: Sun, Dec 4, 2011 5:36 pm >Subject: [a2-16v-list] 16V Garage/Tools from scratch? >To: "Volkswagen a2 16v discussion list" <[email protected]> > >I like having a compressor but you're right, I don't use it that often, >mostly b/c it's such a PITA to charge the tank.
