Shipping a car is not that expensive, probably $1000 cross country. Which is a lot for a car this price I guess.
Maybe another list member nearby is willing to hold onto it until you can go get it.. If I was still in NYC I would totally hold onto the car for you until you figured out how to get it but I am not longer there. The GTi's had power recaros too. It seemed to be whatever VW had laying around the factory floor that day. I've seen the GLi's with both manual and power ones, most of the GTi's came with manual ones. The power ones have larger leg bolsters and a wider head rest.
