Hi,
i always have treated default style as an example, not a real part of
mkgmap program. I have assumed that some simplifications in this style
are allowed ;)
For my own style I use something like this in "lines":
railway=* & (building=* | (area=* & area!=no) | railway=platform |
railway=station) { add railway_area=yes }
And then some more processing, which omit lines with railway_area=yes.
