HI,
To tell you the truth I am no guru in linux,
BUt suggest to chech you harddrive for physical scan...

About teh Segmentaion faults, The only time that I had encounteredthem was
when I usd to program in C, This faults were cause by memeory access
violation, i.e. Teh program had accessed another program's memory area.

I know That This does not solve your problem, but I wannted to tell ya That
I can be simiral to my C programs bug... after all most of linux is
programmed in C
