sorry for getting back to you so late, unnfortunatly I got very sick and also
had to take care of my 1 year old son and wife who both got sick as well!
Since I'm feeling better lets try to sort out some problems.
DNS Servers -
I have Mandrake 9.2 Discovery Version and the only place to enter a DNS server
is where you say it will. I do not know of any other graphical way to do it.
However you could try editing the configuration file (is this what it's
called?) as follows:
Open a terminal and log on as root. Go to /etc and open with your favourite
editor (example I used Vi) the file resolv.conf. Here you will see the DNS
server you inputted in the GUI. Underneath it add the other DNS servers you
need. In the documentation there is detailed explanation on how to use the Vi
editor.
Connecting to the Internet -
You say this is a buiness network. Is the gateway PC a proxy? So do you point
to a proxy server before going to the adsl or cable modem or do you go direct
to the adsl modem or router? If your gateway is a proxy server then try
finding the IP addres of that adsl modem or router and put that in as the
gateway and see what happens.
Viewing the Shared files -
Have your disks ready at hand! Go to Mandrake Control Centre / mount points /
Set Samba mount points.
From there it should be straight forward and you should get a list of the
computers with available shares. Click next to it and it should open up with
the shares.
Sharing Your files from the Linux Machine -
Let me know how the progress went on the above. If all went well we can
continue.
