So Have you tried this before? If I backup my /etc and my /home my
/var/www and /var/local and format my hd, and install Mandrake (i'm
running debian right now)
Things should more or less work out of the box?

I mean if I want to try out Mandrake and if do not like it turn back to
Debian is it somthing that can be done in a day?

Hello everybody,

Philip,
Save your /etc and do not format your /home partition.

I have followed-up your posts yday & 2day; it look like you are ready to start the Linux revolution. Good for you, and good luck, but if you really want some success, try INFILTRATE corporations/companies. Look for standard (I mean standard office duties) and server needs. Because I don't think you will succeed to use whatever payroll/accounting software which was developed having Windows environment in mind. Try instead to make all communication through Linux, followed by administration tasks, backup procedures, available spare space, in one word, things you are SURE 100% they will work without ONE problem. Otherwise, people will start saying that is not a good software, that is difficult to use.

Isn't this what We've been saying, and me agreeing?

Hat off Keith, you are gathering people around and keep the movement; have you checked on www.linuxdocs.org? Have you consider going first in education? I mean schools, coleege and University. Go and setup there some networks, build for them some webservers and forums using Apache, PHP and whatever you will need on Linux to keep them moving.

Uni already uses linux extensivly for it's servers! ... Schools, do they
have connectivity?
