I cannot find the site right now, unfortunately, but about a month ago I read something by Torvalds which concerned the Linux/other OS and Linux/Windows dilemmas. He was saying that Linux is not the perfect OS, just the best to suit his personal preferences. He was also saying that it does not really make sense, to force people who are not mature enough to use Linux (e.g. some gamers, guys who have no idea what source is, etc) in using it. Just in his opinion the Linux community shouldn't be associated with these people. He was mentioning the case when a new Linux fanatic, goes to his neighbour formats his disks and puts Linux, Then the neighbour becomes another clone of the "fanatic user", and uses only offensive vocabulary as regards Windows.
The idea behind all this, should be not that Linux is not to spread. But it is not to replace Windows. There are some people who just are better suited for this OS. Just accept that their OS is Windows, yours is Linux and that's it. I am not saying that you shouldn't try to convince the people, just be careful. Not everyone will like the idea, and furthermore the Linux philosophy does not require that. Once more, I apologise I cannot find the URL, so that you will see it personally.
