BUT from the little php I know, AFAIK php can store its session data in 
either a db or the filesystem. If drupal is using the latter it might be 
that the different distros use different default locations for this 
(/tmp/httpd or /var/lock or something); so it might be a permissions 
thing. Also the httpd process runs under different users on different 
distros. I think fedora calles it apache and ubuntu calls is www-data. I 
don't know where these settings might be but check php.ini and 
/etc/httpd/conf.d and drupal's own config. And BTW make sure the 
AllowOverride settings in the <directory> stanza of the hhtpd.conf 
allows drupals' .htaccess settings if there are any.

One needs to have a close look at apache's access.log and error.log to 
have a better idea. I don't have access to those.
