Did you even try to install your drivers for your graphics card (I'm 
guessing NVIDIA), before complaining about screen resolution? Or at 
least a message at ubuntuforums.org? You'll find that a lot of users 
here use Ubuntu and are quite happy with it. (My father and 2 sisters 
use Ubuntu, for instance). I tried out DreamLinux and I wasn't impressed 
by the Mac imitation.

Also, you can get the "floating launchpad" on pretty much any other distro..

Anyway, welcome to the MLUG :D
