Hi All,

Thanks for your replies...

yes, they are on the same subnet... 192.168.1.x

I'm using a linux laptop to connect to a linux server, both running U 14.04... what i cannot understand is that when connected via ethernet cable, everything works like a charm... The server works when connected to the net via wireless... it's just samba that is somehow blocked...

I cannot even ping the wireless server.... yet the server itself can connect to the net...

can it be some firewall blocking the connections to it via wireless??

Joseph

I would also check the windows firewall. By default that tends to block the traffic for samba. Also binding isnt necessary as long as the computers are on the same ip subnet. I have a feeling the ip subnet being used is different to that of the wired network. On your router you could assign a static ip via dhcp and bind that ip address to that pc using the mac address that way other devices cant use it and you can keep everything on a single subnet.

Hi,

To which network connection have you bind samba?
If you have more than one, you have to list all of them into your smb.conf file.

Good luck,
